Meet the Witch Hunters: The Finale

Dietrich Krueger, Witch Hunter Captain

Finally then, we have Dietrich Krueger - Witch Hunter Captain, equipped with the best money can buy, with the authority of Sigmar himself behind him.

And so that rounds out the Witch Hunters at present. Here's a group shot bringing all the current warband members together!

Meet the Witch Hunters: Part VI

Hieronymous

Hieronymous is the resident Warrior Priest of the warband, dispensing justice to the creatures of Chaos and heretics alike with purifying flame!

Heinrich

Heinrich is the senior Witch Hunter of the warband, and thus has equipment of a quality second to none except Deitrich Krueger, the captain of the band.

The Return of the Witch Hunters: Part V

Finally, after a three month long gap, I've got round to taking the necessary photos to finish this "feature" off. Without further ado, I present the rest of my Witch Hunters for Mordheim

Albrecht

Albrecht is another lowly zealot, although he's slightly higher up the chain of command than Jurgen and Rutger owing to the fact that he has a torch as well as his trusty axe!

Adolphus

Adolphus is Jurgen's twin (and, just like his twin, he's so far proven completely ineffectual with his missile weapon of choice; in this case, a pistol).

In To Moria We Go

So, after a substantial break, it's time for an update on the progress of the Moria game board!

Here's where we were at the last update:

Before the boards could be textured, a few extra details were added - namely, a lot of rubble!

With that done, the texturing could begin. Working in stages, PVA was painted in sections across each board before the sand was poured over and left for a couple of minutes to dry.
(I don't know why this image is on its side - blame Photobucket)

Finally, with the sand dry, it was time to break out the first layer of paint - a solid coat of black undercoat.

And so we reach the present state of the game board. With Christmas and New Year out of the way, I'm hoping to begin carrying on with the game board this week.

Belated Advent Challenge!

You might recall that I took part in Da Warpath's Advent Challenge back in December. The first figure I painted was this one, but I also painted a second figure a few days later.

Being as I was busy working on LotR Dwarves at the time, I chose another Dwarf model to paint - this time, Balin.

I wasn't as happy with how this turned out compared to the Dwarf Captain I painted first, so I went back to it after and added another few highlight layers for the beard and hair. It didn't quite contrast enough for my liking the first time round, and seemed a bit 'bland'. But that's now resolved and I'm happier with the figure now - I'll have to post pictures some other time!

Another Year Over

We're well into 2013 now, so I guess it's about time I made the first post of the year!

Firstly, a very happy New Year to everyone. I'm sure, like me, you've all come out of the holidays with bulging waistbands and empty wallets!

Of course, with the new year now upon us, it's time for the usual retrospective look at what was 2012. As usual, I set myself several hobby resolutions.

As usual, I failed almost all of them.

I failed to paint my remaining Skaven (I got some done at the beginning of the year, but not even half of what I have), I failed to construct and paint my Man o' War pirate ship (or the accompanying pirates), I failed to paint the Blood Bowl teams (they didn't even come out of the box all year) and I only managed to paint 121 figures over the course of the year (rather than the 200 I was aiming for).

All in all, a fairly dismal showing. I think it's safe to say that, after two years of failed resolutions, they clearly aren't working for me. I'm too easily distracted by other projects, or dissuaded from making any sort of progress, and so as 2012 was the Year of the Rat (in which I made the vain promise to paint all my Skaven), I hereby declare 2013 to be the Year of the Magpie - I'm simply going to muddle through the next 12 months without any particular focus or aim, and simply paint whatever takes my fancy. It might mean I see lots of projects get started without any of them getting finished, but that's not really any different to how I normally work anyway!

The one aim I do have for 2013 though is to focus on working through the backlog of figures I've got piled up, and to try and avoid buying in to too many new things during the year. I'm going to attempt to keep a tally of exactly how much I spend on hobby stuff, as well as keeping track of how many models I paint compared to how many models I buy. Having not taken this approach before, I'm not sure what I would consider to be a "good" ratio but I think at the very least I should be aiming to paint at least twice as many figures as I buy.

We'll see how it goes...
